Despite right-wing claims that Italy is being "invaded" by Muslims, the fastest-growing new religion in the country is Orthodox Christianity, according to a new study. Massimo Inrovigne, head of the Cesnur think tank, said legal and illegal immigration, especially from Romania, made the Eastern Rite church "growing faster than" the Islamic faith. Italy’s 220,000 Orthodox Christians have far to go to catch up to the estimated 600,000 Muslims, however, and must still double to catch the number of Jehovah’s Witness, the Cesnur study showed.
